The Harbour UMC Safe Sanctuary Policy—WHY? Because we believe that Jesus taught us to care for His children and youth, we commit our churches to the practice of SAFE supervision. A Safe Sanctuary Poli- cy sets standards for the supervision of the children, youth, and vulnerable adults in our care. Thus, in covenant with all United Methodist congregations, we adopt policies for the prevention of neglect and abuse. There, as Christian communities of faith and United Methodist congregations, we pledge to con- duct the ministry of the gospel in ways that assure the safety and spiritual growth of ALL children, youth, and vulnerable adults and those who minister to them.
We make safety our first priority in the Children's Ministry
One of the ways we enforce this is through using Planning Center Check-In systems for our kids.
When you check kids in, Planning Center prints a name label for each child with medical notes and a security label for the parent.
We match up the labels for a secure checkout, or in an emergency, we can get the parent's phone number from the child's label
The Children’s Council Team works to better shape our children’s programs and events by planning fun, Christian-based, kid-centered events throughout the year. The Children’s Council Team is a body of Staff Members, Leadership Team Members and Church Members who meet in order to plan and evaluate the Children’s Ministry programs and structure. The Team consists of outstanding individuals that are dedicated to our children; these individuals are Safe Sanctuary Trained and have completed Background Checks. The Children’s Council Team provides opportunities throughout the year for children to learn about, and be involved in, sharing the love of Jesus throughout our community and the world. Our goal is to teach the children at The Harbour UMC to becoming a mission-minded children’s ministry.
The United Methodist Children’s Home makes a real difference in the lives of children through Residential Programs. Foster Care Pro- grams, Family Preservation & Support Services, Adop- tion Services, Family Aid, Spiritual Care and the Knabe College Scholarship Program.
